A new international university will appear in the capital

An innovative educational institution of a new format will be built in Nur-Sultan. The ceremony of laying the capsule of the future university was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yeraly Tugzhanov, Minister of Higher Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek, Head of the Metropolitan Department of Education Kasymkhan Sengazyev, representatives of BI Group and members of the delegation of Michigan State University headed by Provost Steven Hanson.

The university will train highly qualified personnel of international level in the field of education, construction and architecture. The partner in the development of the project is the University of Michigan, which is a leading research educational facility (U.S. News&World Report top 100) and is among the top 10 educational institutions in the United States according to the QS 2022 subject rating and the Shanghai ARWU rating.

Given the high need for strong personnel, today the new university, in addition to bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs, will offer short-term Continuing Education courses. Such courses will allow specialists to obtain certification and knowledge in new directions or improve their qualifications. In addition, the university will engage in scientific and research activities in the field of education quality, new technologies, construction and architecture.

The university campus will be located in the Esil district, along Turan Avenue. As part of the first stage of the project, an academic block for 2 thousand seats and a dormitory for 500 people will be built. In the long term, it is planned to build a full-fledged campus for 20 thousand students with all the necessary infrastructure, including parks, sports and recreational facilities, laboratories, a technopark, a business incubator, etc. Completion of the first stage of construction is scheduled for the second quarter of 2024.

Yeraly Tugzhanov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan:

"In January of this year, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed to open branches of advanced foreign universities in Kazakhstan. This measure is necessary to strengthen the current staff and eliminate the shortage of qualified employees, improve the quality of knowledge and human capital. BI Group Holding, which already has a portfolio of successful projects in the field of education, took the initiative to achieve such a global task."

Aydin Rakhimbayev, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BI Group:

"It was important for us to find a partner with a very high international rating capable of making a significant contribution to the development of such important industries as education and construction. In March, we signed a cooperation agreement with Michigan State University. To date, they have already developed and conducted special advanced training courses for principals and head teachers of the capital's schools, the training took place from May 16 to July 15, 2022. Now the methodology and training program of the new university in Nur-Sultan will be created. The development of such an international-level project has a long-term perspective."

The new university will be built at the expense of private investment.

Recall that in January of this year, the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed to open at least 5 branches of advanced foreign universities in Kazakhstan by 2025.
